Data from Trivector and TravelVU suggests that Covid-19 restrictions has had an effect on mobility patterns and public transport usage in Sweden.
Mobility patterns have been measured by the travel app TravelVU. Compared to pre Covid-19 data, public transport usage has decreased while more people are cycling for leisure and shopping. During August, travelers have avoided public transport and instead chosen destinations closer to home. The length of journeys on cycle has increased which suggests an actual increase in cycling. The data also shows that traveling increased during weekends and holidays.
The study has been conducted with few participants making generalizations difficult. Even so, changes in travel-free days, number of journeys per person and length of journeys per person have decreased significantly since restrictions were imposed in March.
