Romania and Republic of Moldova, united in ideas about gender and diversity within the cities of the future

The first day of October was the perfect time for an interesting debate on how to include and develop gender and diversity concepts in the future strategies of cities. Today’s workshop brought together representatives of municipalities from Alba Iulia, Romania and Edinet, Republic of Moldova.

Alexandru Damian, chief architect of Alba Iulia Municipality, Maria Elena Seemann – public administrator of the city and, on the other hand, the Mayor of Edinet Municipality, Republic of Moldova together with a whole team of representatives of the municipality presented, one by one, the challenges, opportunities and solutions for sustainable development and smart urban planning.

In addition to the major themes addressed, related to urban planning, infrastructure investments or medium and long-term city development strategies, a key point was how gender and diversity concepts can be addressed and included in strategic development planning at local level. Alba Iulia, as a signatory in the TInnGO project of the European Charter for Equality between Women and Men in Local Life, will develop a precise and coherent strategy for its implementation and will share with its partners in the Republic of Moldova the steps to follow and the solutions to apply in order to help them to adhere to the Charter and to implement it.
