Despite the prohibitions and restrictions imposed by Covid19, the passion for bicycles of the Romanians has once again found its best place to carry out, freely and safely.

Just a few days ago, on August 8, 2020 one of the most important cycling competitions on the mountain route in Romania and Eastern Europe – Sureanu Bike Fest – took place in the Sureanu Mountains, Alba County.

Celebrating it’s 5th edition, ŞureanuBikeFest is more than a cycling competition, it is a meeting between mountain lovers and pedaling enthusiasts, regardless of level and experience, age or gender. The TinnGIDLab Alba Iulia team was there! Nearly 150 participants from all geographical areas of Romania, from Timisoara to Suceava and from Constanta to Oradea accepted the invitation of the organizers and entered the competition, in order to promote movement in nature and sustainable mobility.

Mr Horia Trifu, head of Muhlbach Ecological Education Center Association, the main organizser of the festival, said “We are delighted to see how the passion for cycling of the Romanians grows, from year to year and, with it, the number of participants in Sureanu Bike Fest. Although 2020 is an atypical year in terms of restrictions, we managed to organize this year’s edition impeccably, respecting all special conditions. I’m glad that we’re expanding our partner list and that, among them, TInnGO is now found, through the Lab in Alba Iulia. This gives us hope for the opening to Europe of the next editions of Sureanu Bike Fest!”

A record participation was set in the category of competition reserved to women, won this year by:

  • category 19-29 y.o.: Molnar Ildiko, who cycled the entire route, a very difficult one, in just 2 hours and 17 minutes;
  •  category 30-39 y.o. : Melinda Deszo with an excellent time also: 2:27:51
  • category 40-49 y.o. : Simona Pop – 2 hours and 31 minutes.

More details and stunning photos caught right from the very heart of the action are available on the festival website or on the event’s Facebook page.
